We finally got it figured out

Today I had P's planning meeting for next year. We decided to send her to Kindergarten at her current/local school. They have that funky, every other day, schedule. It will be crazy having her in school M & W one week and T & TH the next week. We are going to skip Fridays alltogether because we have to have at least one consistant day to have her therapies and stuff on. It will only be 2 days per month anyways, and with long weekends and such it probably won't add up to much.
They are going to be providing her an aid that will be with her throughout the day. She won't get direct PT or OT, but they will consult with her aid/aids and tell them what to be doing with her. She'll still get Speech therapy twice per week. I think it will work out well because she'll be getting lots of walking during the school day and that's what they've been working on anyways. She'll also have adaptive phy ed.
She'll be using her Ped. stroller to get into and out of the school building and for when she's tired of walking and they need to bring her to the other end of the school for something. Other than that she'll be using her walker.
We had gotten approval through a Family Support Grant for a Toughbook for her with Speaking Dynamically Pro on it. Hopefully we'll get that soon and can start working on that. Then she'll use that in school too.
Hopefully it will all go smoothly and we'll be happy with the set-up.
As many of you have followed through previous posts, I have struggled with the decision on what to do with her for next year. I could homeschool her, but I can't work one-on-one with her while schooling the other kids. She can sit at the table with us, but is that something that will interest her? Right now she's usually only interested in pulling up on everything and getting into stuff :o) This way she'll have one person with her all day making sure that she can participate in the school activities and also make sure she's getting some walking in each day.
School for her is a lot different experience than it would be for our older 2 kids. They weren't learning well and the things they were learning weren't things we approved of. We love knowing what they are learning and being able to teach it to them. They are both a whole grade ahead in math, and are learning to read beautifully. Daddy is always impressed by their reading abilities at story time :o)

  1. I'm happy for your decision! I know that you only want what is best for each one of your children, and I know you've put a lot of thought into this. :) Sounds like you're at peace with the decision, and that's what matters!

  2. I think you made the best decision for P. I know it was hard, but it's going to be the best for her. Just like homeschooling is not for every parent, homeschooling is not for every child.
